The Imaginarium is an immersive design and digital art lab located in the Dowd Art and Art History building. This center seeks to unify immersive digital technology and fine arts practice, with an emphasis on interactivity, engagement, collaboration, and social responsibility.
During the summer of 2019, there have been some big changes and upgrades to the Imaginarium. Thanks to an ongoing partnership with Wacom, 23 Cintiq tablets have been installed, one per each workstation, in the lab for student and faculty use. This technology allows people to use the natural motion of a pen (or, in this case, a stylus) to create digital illustrations, textures, and 2D animations. To support the new hardware, licenses for Substance Painter and Substance Designer, the premier 3D texturing tools used by professional artists in games, animation, and vfx, have been installed.
