Although college is an exciting time, students may still experience stress and emotional duress that can adversely affect their psychological well-being and hinder their academic success. When this happens, CAPS encourages students to seek counseling. Counseling is a unique opportunity to spend time with a trained therapist. Your therapist will listen and help you to better understand yourself while supporting you in identifying ways of reaching your goals.
Students address a variety of issues in individual therapy. Some of those issues are normal developmental issues, such as test anxiety, stress management, homesickness, intimate relationships, self-esteem, individuation, family conflicts, career issues, decision-making, sexual issues, cultural adjustment, identity development. Others may involve more serious, episodic or longstanding struggles such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, alcohol and drug concerns and trauma. Therapy is known to be beneficial because individuals can talk privately about their concerns in a safe environment while experiencing the full attention and support of a professional therapist who is focused entirely on them.

We are here to help you to take better care of yourself so that you can accomplish all that you have come to Santa Clara University to accomplish.
CAPS utilizes a short-term counseling model to help students cope with the challenges of college life. When the therapeutic needs of a student require greater resources, your therapist will work with you to find a therapist in the community. All students are eligible for up to 10 sessions per academic year and you and your therapist can determine the exact frequency of the sessions. The first six (6) sessions are of no charge. There is a fee for sessions seven (7) through ten (10). For a complete list of related fees, please visit the Price List.
