Santa Clara University Named No. 25 Online MBA Program by The Princeton Review
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 19, 2019—Santa Clara University Leavey School of Business offers one of the nation's most outstanding online MBA programs, earning the 25th spot in this year’s , only two years after launching its Online MBA.
Building upon the rigor and relevance of Santa Clara’s Evening MBA curriculum, which was recently ranked No. 22 by U.S. News & World Report, the Leavey School of Business launched its Online MBA program in January 2018 and currently has 140 Online MBA students across five states.
“I am excited to be leading an exceptional academic institution whose innovative and entrepreneurial offerings prepare our students to go anywhere from here,” said dean Caryn Beck-Dudley. “At the Leavey School of Business, we collaborate with the most brilliant minds in entrepreneurship, ethics, innovation, and theory. And we do it all from the most prolific business environment on earth, Silicon Valley.”
"Santa Clara’s program is exceptionally strong academically, and it maximizes technology that enables students to interact with and learn from faculty and students all over the world,” said Rob Franek, editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review, in announcing the list.
The Leavey School’s Online MBA program includes a signature Silicon Valley Professional Dashboard, through which students track, curate, and connect their coursework, co-curricular activities, and professional development. In addition, students have access to the vibrant Leavey School of Business community and strong alumni connections, career fairs and networking events, including study abroad courses in locations like Vietnam.
In The Princeton Review survey, students praised the caliber and dedication of faculty, describing professors as “knowledgeable in the subjects they are teaching and incredibly responsive to questions and suggestions.”
“We are extremely proud of this top showing so soon after we launched our Online MBA program,” said Nydia MacGregor, faculty director of MBA and online programs. “Credit goes to our innovative faculty and their hard work in developing content that gives students a rich and engaging experience all while having the flexibility of online education.”
“As we graduate our first cohort of Online MBA students this fall and introduce them to our network of more than 100,000 Bronco alumni, we are thrilled that our Online MBA program ranks in the top 25,” said Toby McChesney, senior assistant dean of graduate business programs.
Many of the Leavey School Online MBA students noted in the survey the importance of Santa Clara University’s location and “brand reputation in Silicon Valley,” even though they’re attending online. To them, it’s not just about getting a master’s degree, but about obtaining “a tech focus interwoven into the MBA program.” As one student shared, “for those who want to work in the SF Bay Area, [tech] is unofficially required.” Gaining that experience is doable, another student noted, thanks in part to the palpable “enthusiasm and accessibility [from] the leaders of the Leavey School of Business. Dean Caryn Beck-Dudley conveyed a clear vision for improving the offerings and prestige of the school.”
The Princeton Review ranking comes on the heels of similar strong national rankings for SCU, including a top 15 percent showing (No. 54) among nearly 400 national-level universities in U.S. News & World Report’s National Universities category in this year’s “Best Colleges” edition.
The Princeton Review chose the top 25 online MBA programs and tallied its ranking list based on data from the company's 2018–2019 surveys of administrators at more than 110 business schools offering online MBAs, including survey data of more than 6,000 students enrolled in the online MBA programs. More than 60 data points were weighted to determine the list and rankings. The criteria focused on five core areas: academics, selectivity, faculty, technical platforms, and career outcomes.
